The Story of Selma

Selma has an interesting past. It was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1842. This happened when a major road, known as the Xenia and Columbus Pike, was extended to that spot.

A post office opened in Selma in 1841, even before the community was officially mapped. It helped people send and receive mail for many years, staying open until 1967.

Selma and the Underground Railroad

One of the most important parts of Selma's history is its connection to the Underground Railroad. This was a secret network of safe houses and routes used by enslaved African Americans to escape to freedom in the North during the 1800s. Selma served as a "station" on this brave journey, offering a safe place for people seeking freedom.
