How Selvin Got Its Name
Long ago, in 1839, Selvin had a different name. It was first called Taylorsville. A person named George Taylor planned out the community. He named it after himself.
Later, the community got a post office. A post office is where mail is sent and received. This first post office opened in 1853. It was called Polk Patch. In 1881, the name of the post office changed to Selvin. The post office eventually closed in 1951.
