Semih Erden's Basketball Journey
Starting Out in Turkey
Semih Erden began his professional basketball career in the 2003–04 season. He played for Darüşşafaka in the Turkish Basketball League. In his first season, he played one game, scoring one point and getting two rebounds. Most of his time was spent playing with Darüşşafaka's junior team.
Playing in Serbia
The next season, Semih moved to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. He played in the Adriatic League, where he averaged 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He scored 17 points in one game against KK Hemofarm. Semih also played in the EuroLeague, averaging 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds. His best EuroLeague game was against Efes Pilsen, where he scored 10 points.
Success with Fenerbahçe
In 2005, Semih joined Fenerbahçe, a big team in the Turkish Basketball League. In his first year there, he averaged 6.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. He scored 14 points in one game and reached double figures in seven games. He also played in the EuroLeague, adding 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
In his second season with Fenerbahçe, Semih averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in the Turkish League. He scored 10 points against Galatasaray Café Crown. In the EuroLeague, he averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds.
During his third season, Semih averaged 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in the Turkish League. He scored 15 points in a game against CASA TED Kolejliler. He missed some games that season because of a knee injury. In the EuroLeague, he averaged 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds. He scored 15 points in a game against Panathinaikos Athens.

Drafted by the Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics picked Semih Erden in the 2008 NBA draft. He was the 60th player chosen. At that time, Semih was still under contract with Fenerbahçe, so he did not join the Celtics right away. The Celtics' general manager, Danny Ainge, saw him as a promising player for the future.
On July 5, 2010, the Celtics officially signed Semih to a contract.
First NBA Starts
In December 2010, many of Boston's main centers were injured. This gave Semih a chance to start his first NBA game on December 9, 2010, against the Philadelphia 76ers. He scored 8 points in 18 minutes, helping his team win 102–101. Two nights later, Semih started again against the Charlotte Bobcats. He played 41 minutes, scoring 10 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and blocking 4 shots.
Moving to the Cleveland Cavaliers
On February 24, 2011, Semih was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He moved there along with his teammate Luke Harangody.
Back to Europe
Playing During the NBA Lockout
On September 21, 2011, Semih signed with the Turkish club Beşiktaş. This was during an NBA lockout, which meant NBA games were paused. He played alongside NBA All-Star Deron Williams at Beşiktaş. However, on November 22, 2011, Semih broke a finger during a Eurochallenge game.
Joining Anadolu Efes
On July 3, 2012, Semih signed a two-year contract with Anadolu Efes, another strong Turkish team. He left the team on May 26, 2014.
Returning to Fenerbahçe and Darüşşafaka
On August 1, 2014, Semih returned to Fenerbahçe for another year. In the 2014–15 season, Fenerbahçe made it to the 2015 Euroleague Final Four for the first time ever. They lost in the semifinal game to Real Madrid.
In August 2015, Semih signed a one-year deal with his first club, Darüşşafaka. He re-signed with them on August 26, 2016. On February 6, 2017, he left Darüşşafaka.
Later Career in Turkey
On October 6, 2017, Semih signed a short-term contract with Hacettepe Üniversitesi GSK. Later that month, on October 26, 2017, he signed a deal to play for Beşiktaş again.
On October 2, 2018, Semih signed a one-year contract with İstanbul BŞB.
On August 20, 2019, he signed a two-year deal with Pınar Karşıyaka in the Turkish Basketball Super League. In the 2019–20 season, Semih averaged over 8 points and 4 rebounds in the EuroCup. He extended his contract until 2022.
On July 10, 2022, he signed with Türk Telekom in the BSL.
Most recently, on September 23, 2023, Semih signed with Bursaspor İnfo Yatırım in the BSL.

Playing for Turkey's National Team
Semih Erden has been a regular player for the Turkish national team. His first international experience was in 2005 at the U20 European Championships in Moscow. There, he averaged 10.4 points and 8.0 rebounds in seven games.
In the 2006 U20 European Championships in İzmir, Turkey, Semih helped Turkey win a silver medal. He averaged 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds. In the same year, he joined the Turkish team for the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan, where he contributed 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. In the EuroBasket 2007 in Spain, Semih averaged 1.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in five games.
