Later, in 1968, he moved to Moscow. There, he continued his training at the CSKA club, where he was coached by Konstantin Karakashyants. Sergey retired from competitive gymnastics in 1972. After his sports career, he served in the military and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel.

How the Diomidov Skill Works

Imagine a gymnast starting in a handstand position on the parallel bars. For the Diomidov skill, the gymnast swings down from the handstand, moving through a support position. Then, they quickly release one hand from the bar and twist their body a full turn (360 degrees) in the air. After this amazing twist, they quickly regrasp the bar with both hands, returning to a handstand position. It's a very dynamic and impressive maneuver! This skill is similar to another move called the Stutz handstand, but the Stutz involves only a half-turn and releasing both hands, making the Diomidov unique with its full twist and single-hand release.
