Setoka facts for kids
Setoka (せとか, Setoka) is a special type of citrus fruit from Japan. It's known for being super sweet and usually has no seeds! Setoka is a kind of fruit called a tangor, which means it's a mix of different citrus fruits. It was officially named "Tangor Nōrin No.8" in Japan in 1998.
Setoka fruits are usually round and a bit flat, weighing about 200 to 280 grams. They have a thin skin that's easy to peel, which makes them great for snacking! People love Setoka for its wonderful smell and delicious taste, which is a bit like another citrus fruit called Murcott. These tasty fruits are ready to eat in February. Setoka oranges are very sweet, with a sugar level of 12–13 Brix, and they don't have much sourness.
Where Does Setoka Come From?
Setoka was created by mixing different citrus fruits. It's a hybrid of a Murcott tangor and another special citrus called "Kuchinotsu No. 37." "Kuchinotsu No. 37" is also a mix of Kiyomi tangor and a King tangor/Willowleaf mandarin cross, which was called "Encore No. 2." Scientists worked to create this amazing fruit with its unique taste and easy-to-peel skin.
