Sewellsville is a small place in Belmont County, Ohio. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
The Story of Sewellsville
The first people started living in the area of Sewellsville around the year 1815. Back then, it was known by a different name: Union.
Later, in 1834, a special office called a post office was opened in Sewellsville. This was where people could send and receive letters and packages. The person in charge of this first post office was named Peter Sewell. The community was named Sewellsville to honor him. The post office stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1907.
