The shíshálh Nation Government District is a special area in British Columbia, Canada. It is run by the shíshálh Nation, an Indigenous group. This district used to be called the Sechelt Indian Government District. It became an official government district on March 17, 1988.
The district is made up of 33 separate pieces of land. Most of these pieces (32 of them) are in the Sunshine Coast Regional District. One piece is located in the qathet Regional District.

The shíshálh Nation Government District is a unique type of government in British Columbia. It is a First Nations government district, which means it is governed by an Indigenous Nation. This allows the shíshálh Nation to manage its own lands and affairs.
Where is the District Located?
The district is found in the Sunshine Coast region. This area is in the southwest part of British Columbia, Canada. It is known for its beautiful natural scenery.
Who Leads the Nation?
The shíshálh Nation Government District is led by elected officials. The main leader is called the lhe hiwus, which means Chief. The current lhe hiwus is yalxwemult (Lenora Joe). There are also several hihewus, or Councilors, who help lead the Nation. They work together to make decisions for their community.
How Many People Live Here?
In 2021, the shíshálh Nation Government District had a total population of 765 people. These people lived in 333 homes. This was an increase from 2016, when the population was 697.
The district covers a land area of about 11.03 square kilometers. This means that in 2021, there were about 69.4 people living per square kilometer. Most of the population, 744 people, live in the parts of the district within the Sunshine Coast Regional District. A smaller number, 21 people, live in the part within the qathet Regional District.
