About Shaka Senghor

Shaka Senghor grew up in Detroit, Michigan, in a middle-class family during the 1980s. When he was 14, he left home. Later, he became involved in difficult situations that led to him spending 19 years in prison. During his time there, he spent seven years in solitary confinement, which means being alone for a very long time. He was released from prison in 2010.

His Journey and Work

After leaving prison, Shaka Senghor became a strong voice for change. He believes in helping people take responsibility for their actions and find ways to improve their lives. He has taught classes at places like the University of Michigan and the MIT Media Lab. He also worked as a Fellow with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Community Leadership Network.

In July 2025, Shaka Senghor appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, where he shared more about his experiences and ideas.
