Shakerley Mere is a lovely lake and a fun place to visit in Cheshire, England. It's near a village called Allostock. This lake wasn't always here! It used to be a big hole where people dug out sand. After they stopped digging in the 1960s, the hole filled up with water and became the lake we see today.

What is Shakerley Mere?
Shakerley Mere is a lake that formed in an old sand quarry. People used to dig sand from this spot. When they finished in the 1960s, the big hole filled with water. This created the beautiful lake we know today.
The lake has a shape like a triangle. It is next to the M6 motorway on one side. Two other roads, the B5081 and B5082, border the other sides.
The local government, Cheshire West and Chester Council, looks after the area. They make sure it's a great place for everyone to enjoy outdoor activities.
Fun Things to Do
There are many ways to enjoy Shakerley Mere. A path goes all the way around the lake. It's about 0.9 miles long, perfect for a walk or a jog. You can enjoy the fresh air and pretty views.
In one corner of the area, there's a small patch of special land called heathland. This area is important for nature. It has unique plants and animals.
Fish and Wildlife
Shakerley Mere is a popular spot for fishing. A group called Lymm Angling Club manages the fishing here. They make sure there are plenty of fish for people to catch.
You can find different types of fish in the lake. These include carp, bream, roach, and perch.
In 2014, some fish that were not supposed to be in the lake were removed. These were called bighead and silver carp. This helps keep the lake healthy for the local fish.
