Shamim Sarif (born September 24, 1969) is a talented British writer and film director. She is known for creating stories and movies that explore themes of identity and different cultures. Her family background is from South Asia and South Africa.

Early Life and Education
Shamim Sarif was born in London, England. Her parents were from India and moved to London from South Africa in the early 1960s. They left South Africa to escape a system called apartheid. This system had unfair rules that separated people based on their race.
Shamim studied English literature at Royal Holloway, University of London. Later, she earned a Master's degree in English from Boston University.

Shamim Sarif is a successful novelist, screenwriter, and film director. She has written several books and also turned some of them into movies.
Novels and Awards
Her first novel, The World Unseen, was published in 2001. This book won two awards: a Betty Trask Award in 2002 and the Pendleton May First Novel Award. The story in The World Unseen looks at ideas about race, gender, and personal identity. Shamim was inspired by stories from her grandmother and her family's Indian and South African background.
Later, she wrote The Athena Protocol (2019) and The Shadow Mission (The Athena Protocol #2) (2020). These books are different from her earlier works. They are exciting action-adventure and spy stories.
Directing Her Own Stories
Shamim Sarif has directed films based on three of her own novels. These include:
- The World Unseen (2007): This film was chosen to be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival.
