Shane McGrath was born on September 12, 1984. He is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder. He was a key player for the Tipperary senior team.
Shane started playing for Tipperary in the 2006 National League. During his amazing career, he won many awards. These include one All-Ireland medal and five Munster medals. He also won a National Hurling League medal and two All-Star awards. He was even the captain for Tipperary in 2013.
Shane was known for his great skills in hurling. He was good at catching the ball in the air. He also made powerful runs through the middle of the field. In 2014, he scored eight points from midfield in important games. He played club hurling with his three brothers for Ballinahinch club. Shane McGrath retired from playing for his county team on November 17, 2015.

Shane played club hurling for his local team, Ballinahinch. He played with his brothers, which must have been fun! While he had some success, he did not win a senior county club championship.
Playing for His University
Shane also played hurling while studying at university. He played for the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).
Winning the Fitzgibbon Cup
In 2005, Shane helped LIT win the Fitzgibbon Cup. This is a big competition for universities. They beat their rivals, University of Limerick, in the final. He won a second Fitzgibbon Cup medal in 2007. This time, LIT beat National University of Ireland, Galway.
Winning the Ryan Cup
Later, in 2009, Shane also won a Ryan Cup medal. He achieved this while studying at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
Playing for His County: Tipperary
Shane first played for Tipperary's intermediate team in 2003. He then joined the Under-21 team in 2004. He worked hard to get a spot on the main team.
Starting His Senior Career
Shane made his first senior game for Tipperary in 2006. It was a National Hurling League game against Limerick. Later that year, he played his first championship game against the same team.
First Big Wins (2008)
In 2008, Tipperary had a great year. They won the National League by beating Galway. Shane got his first National League medal. Later, Tipperary won the Munster final against Clare. This was Shane's first Munster medal. Even though they lost in the All-Ireland semi-final, Shane received his first All-Star award. This award recognizes the best players of the year.
Championship Battles (2009-2011)
Shane won his second Munster medal in 2009. Tipperary beat Waterford in the final. They then reached the All-Ireland final against Kilkenny. Kilkenny was trying to win their fourth championship in a row. Tipperary played well, but Kilkenny won in the end.
In 2010, Tipperary reached the All-Ireland final again. They faced Kilkenny, who were trying for their fifth win in a row. Tipperary played an amazing game. They scored four goals and won the match! This was Shane's first All-Ireland medal.
Tipperary won the Munster championship again in 2011. This gave Shane his third Munster medal. For the third year in a row, Tipperary played Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. Kilkenny won this time.
More Success and Retirement
In 2012, Shane won his fourth Munster medal. Tipperary beat Waterford in the final. However, they lost badly to Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-final.
In October 2014, Shane won his second All Stars Award. This was after a strong season where Tipperary reached the All-Ireland Final. In November 2015, Shane announced he was retiring from playing for his county.
Playing for His Province
Shane also played for the Munster team in inter-provincial games. He won his first Railway Cup medal in 2007. He won his second medal in 2013 when he captained the team.
