Sharon Ryer Davis was born on May 6, 1954. She is an American author and activist. She served as the First Lady of California from 1999 to 2003. Sharon Davis is married to Gray Davis, who was the Governor of California. Before becoming First Lady, she was the Second Lady of California from 1995 to 1999. She is also known for winning the Miss Santee contest and for writing a children's book.
About Sharon Davis
Early Life and Career
Sharon Davis grew up in Santee, California. She went to Santana High School there. During her time in high school, she entered and won the Miss Santee competition. After finishing high school, she started working as a flight attendant. She worked for Pacific Southwest Airlines.
Meeting Gray Davis
Sharon met Gray Davis in 1979. At that time, Gray Davis was working for the Governor of California, Jerry Brown. He was the Governor's Chief of Staff. Sharon and Gray Davis later married in 1980.
Her Role as First Lady
As the First Lady of California, Sharon Davis focused on important causes. She worked to improve children's health and education. She was especially interested in helping kids learn to read.
She started the Governor's Book Fund. This fund helped provide money for school libraries. To help raise money for this fund, she wrote a children's book. The book was called The Adventures of Capitol Kitty. Through her efforts, she helped raise $750,000 for the fund.
Sharon Davis left her role as First Lady in November 2003. This happened after her husband, Gray Davis, left the governor's office.
