Sharon Emily Epperson (born April 12, 1968) is a well-known television correspondent. She works for CNBC as their senior personal finance correspondent. You might also see her on NBC News shows like Today and NBC Nightly News.

Early Life and School Days
Sharon Epperson grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents were David E. Epperson and Ceceila T. Epperson. Her mom was a retired schoolteacher in the Pittsburgh Public School System. Her dad was a dean at the University of Pittsburgh for almost 30 years. He was the first African-American dean at that school.
Sharon went to Pittsburgh's Taylor Allderdice High School. She graduated in 1986. Later, in 2011, she was honored in their alumni hall of fame. When she was 18, she worked as an intern at the Pittsburgh Press library.
Sharon studied at Harvard University. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and government. She also got a master's degree in international affairs from Columbia University. She has an honorary doctorate from Carlow University. At Harvard, she joined a sorority called Alpha Kappa Alpha. Since 2000, she has taught international affairs at Columbia University.
Her Career in TV and Writing
Sharon Epperson started working at CNBC in 1996. Before her current role, she was CNBC's senior energy correspondent. She covered the oil and gas markets every day for eight years. In 2015, she was one of six experts who discussed a Republican presidential debate on TV.
Sharon has also written a lot. She wrote a column about personal finance for USA Weekend magazine. Her articles have appeared in many other magazines and newspapers. These include Essence, The Boston Globe, and The Wall Street Journal.
She also wrote a book called The Big Payoff: 8 Steps Couples Can Take to Make the Most of Their Money and Live Richly Ever After. Sharon also hosts an online video series called Retire Well.
Awards and Honors
Sharon Epperson has won several awards for her work:
- 1995: She won first place from the National Association of Black Journalists. This was for her team's coverage of a Time magazine story.
- 1999: She received a Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals. This is an international TV competition.
- 2001: She earned a Gracie Allen Award. This award is from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television.

Sharon Epperson is from Pittsburgh. She lives in Westchester County, New York, with her family. Her husband is Christopher John Farley. He is also a journalist and author. They have two children together. They got married on August 30, 1997.
Sharon's sister, Lia Epperson, is a civil rights lawyer and law professor.
In 2016, Sharon had a health scare. She had a brain aneurysm while at the gym. Luckily, she did not have any lasting brain damage.
