Sharon Ní Bheoláin is a well-known Irish journalist and news presenter. She works for RTÉ, which is Ireland's main radio and television broadcaster. Since 2018, she has been a main presenter for the Nine O'Clock News. Sharon has also presented many other important shows. These include Crimecall, Nuacht RTÉ, One O'Clock News, and Six One News. Sharon's Early Life and School
Sharon Boland was born on 15 February 1971. Her family lived in Ayrefield, which is in County Dublin. In 1980, when Sharon was nine years old, her family moved to Malahide. She went to Trinity College Dublin (TCD) for her university studies. In 1992, she earned a special degree in early and modern Irish. Even though she wasn't a native Irish speaker, she learned a lot about the language.
Sharon's Career in Journalism
Before joining RTÉ, Sharon Ní Bheoláin worked at a radio station in Dublin. This station was called Raidió Na Life.
Starting at RTÉ
Sharon began her career with RTÉ in 1994. Her first role was presenting Nuacht RTÉ, which is the Irish language news. In 1997, she became the presenter for News 2.
Presenting Major News Shows
In the early 2000s, Sharon appeared on various RTÉ News programmes. She presented the Six One News and the Nine O'Clock News. She also worked on news shows for RTÉ Two. In 2005, she became a permanent co-presenter of the Six One News. She worked alongside Bryan Dobson on this popular evening news show. In December 2017, Sharon announced she would be leaving the Six One News.
Other TV Programmes
Sharon also presented a short TV series called Turas Teanga. This show helped viewers learn the Irish language. It was a great way for people to improve their Irish.
Current Roles at RTÉ
In 2018, Sharon became the main anchor for the Nine O'Clock News. She shares presenting duties with Eileen Dunne. It was also announced that she would present Crimecall every month. This show helps solve crimes by asking the public for information. She also presents Leaders' Questions every Wednesday and Thursday morning. This show covers important political discussions in the Dáil.
Sharon's Family Life
Sharon Ní Bheoláin married a cameraman named Kevin Cantrell in 1999. They lived in Clontarf and had one daughter together. They separated in 2005. Since 2009, her partner has been Finbarr Heslin, who is a vet.
