Sharon Warren is an American actress. She is best known for playing Aretha Robinson, the mother of famous musician Ray Charles, in the 2004 movie Ray.

About Sharon Warren
Sharon Warren was born in Opelika, Alabama. Her father, David, was a sheriff in Macon County, Alabama. Her mother, Pebblin Warren, was a politician for the Democratic Party. This means her mother was involved in government and making laws.
Sharon's Journey to Acting
Sharon went to Auburn University to study finance and business. However, she decided to leave college in 1999 to follow her dream of becoming an actress.
Before she became famous in movies, Sharon acted in plays on stage. In 1999, she performed in a play called A Raisin in the Sun. She also acted alongside the well-known actress Ruby Dee in a play called Flying Over Purgatory. While working on stage, Sharon also had a job at an architectural company to earn money. She worked with the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta for many years.
Landing the Role in Ray
Sharon Warren got the important role of Aretha Robinson in the movie Ray. This movie tells the life story of Ray Charles. The director of the film, Taylor Hackford, had seen Sharon act in a play. He asked her to try out for the part. She was the only actress considered for the role and she won it!
Sharon shared that she used her own grandmother as inspiration for playing Aretha. For her amazing work in Ray, she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actress. Later, in 2006, Sharon also had a role in the drama movie Glory Road.
