About Sharpe's Ransom
This short story gives us a peek into Richard Sharpe's life after the big battle of Sharpe's Waterloo. He's living a peaceful life in Normandy, France, with his partner, Lucille.
What Happens in the Story?
One day, some old enemies of Major Ducos, who was Sharpe's rival, show up at his home. They think Sharpe has some of the emperor's gold, which he supposedly helped General Calvet find in Sharpe's Revenge.
Sharpe knows he can't convince them they are wrong. So, he agrees to take them to where the gold is supposedly hidden. He plans to trick them.
Sharpe uses a clever trick to get away from his guards. Then, he gathers help from his neighbors. Even though they don't always like him, they agree to help.
To distract the bad guys, Sharpe's neighbors sing a choir in front of his house. This gives Sharpe a chance to sneak in through a secret entrance. He manages to capture the thieves and save the day!
