Fun Activities at the Lake

Shawnee State Fishing Lake is a great place for boating and fishing. You can enjoy the water and try to catch some fish.

Boating Rules

Boats are allowed on the lake. But there's a special rule: you can only use boats for fishing. This helps keep the lake calm and safe for everyone. There's a public boat ramp. You can find it on the southeast side of the lake. It's just north of the dam.

Fishing at the Lake

This lake is a favorite spot for fishing. The lake is regularly stocked with catfish. This means new catfish are added often. You can also find many other types of fish here. There are thirteen rock jetties built into the lake. These are like small piers that stick out into the water. They are perfect spots for fishing.

Camping and Facilities

If you love camping, you can set up a campsite along the lake's shore. These campsites are simple, or "primitive." This means they don't have electricity or water hookups. But don't worry, there are three public pit toilets available. They are located around the lake shores for visitors to use.

Hunting Information

Hunting is allowed on the property around the lake. You can hunt with a shotgun or a bow and arrow. This is only allowed during December and January. No other types of weapons can be used for hunting here. On the east side of the lake, there's a special place called the Shawnee County Hunter Education Facility and Shooting Range. Here, people can take classes to learn about safe hunting.
