Sheil, Missouri facts for kids
Sheil is a small place in Ralls County, located in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county government.
History of Sheil
The area now known as Sheil has had a few different names over the years. It was sometimes called "Shiel" or "Sydney."
A post office, which was a very important place for sending and receiving letters and packages, started operating there as early as 1855. At that time, it was known as the "Sydney" post office.
In 1898, the name of the post office was officially changed to "Shiel." However, it did not stay open for long after that. The post office was closed down in 1910. The community of Shiel was named after a local priest who lived in the area.
