Sherrie Miday's Early Life
Sherrie Miday was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents came to the United States from Egypt two years before she was born. Her father is a priest in the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria.
Education and Training
Sherrie Miday went to John Carroll University and graduated in 1998. Later, in 2001, she earned her law degree, called a J.D., from Case Western Reserve University. A J.D. degree is what lawyers need to practice law.
Her Career Journey
After finishing her education, Sherrie Miday worked as a lawyer in Cleveland for six years. This experience helped her meet the requirements to become a judge. She also worked for three years as a prosecutor. A prosecutor is a lawyer who works for the government and tries to prove that someone has broken the law. After that, she spent three years as an assistant judge.
She is currently serving her first term as a judge. Her term for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas ends in 2022.

In 2014, Sherrie Miday ran for a judge position. She wanted to join the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. She was the first Egyptian-American person to run for a judge role in the United States. However, she did not win this election. She received 47.1 percent of the votes. The person who was already a judge, Pamela A. Barker, won the election on November 4, 2014.
Election in 2016
Sherrie Miday ran for judge again in 2016. This time, she ran without anyone else from her party challenging her in the first election round. In the main election on November 8, 2016, she won! She received 54.07% of the votes, beating Matthew McMonagle. This was a very important win. Sherrie Miday became the first Egyptian-American person to be elected as a judge in the United States.
