Sherwood Pictures is an American company that makes Christian movies. It's located in Albany, Georgia, in the United States. What makes Sherwood Pictures special is that it's part of a local church called Sherwood Baptist Church. Most of the people who work on their movies are volunteers. The company started in 2003 with $20,000 that was donated.
Sherwood Pictures made its first movie, Flywheel, in 2003. They are well-known for other movies like Facing the Giants (2006), Fireproof (2008), and Courageous (2011). Fireproof was even the highest-earning independent movie in the year it came out! The Kendrick Brothers, who started Sherwood Pictures, have also made other popular films like War Room (2015) and Overcomer (2019), but these were not made by Sherwood Pictures itself.

How Sherwood Pictures Started
Sherwood Pictures was created in 2003 by Alex Kendrick. He was a pastor at Sherwood Baptist Church who worked with media. The company began with $20,000 in donations. Alex Kendrick has written and directed all of Sherwood's movies.
Growing Budgets and Big Success
The money used to make each movie grew over time. Flywheel cost $20,000 to make. Facing the Giants cost $100,000. Fireproof had a budget of $500,000, and Courageous cost $2 million. Later movies made by the Kendrick Brothers, like War Room and Overcomer, had even bigger budgets.
Sherwood's movies have earned a lot more money than they cost to make. For example, Facing the Giants made 102 times its budget back! Fireproof earned 67 times its budget. Courageous made eight times its budget in just its first ten days in theaters. This shows how popular their films became.
In 2011, a magazine called The Hollywood Reporter wrote about how successful Sherwood's movies were becoming. They said that the movies had improved a lot. A film reviewer named Frank Scheck said that the characters in Courageous were "complex and well drawn." This means the characters felt real and faced challenges that tested their beliefs in ways that made sense.
The Kendrick Brothers' New Company
In 2013, Alex Kendrick and his two brothers decided to start their own movie company. They left the Sherwood Pictures department and created a new company called Kendrick Brothers.
