Shideler's History
How Shideler Began
Shideler started to grow because a railroad was built right through its area. The community was named after a man named Isaac Shideler. He was a person who helped promote the railroad. Isaac Shideler generously gave land so that a train depot could be built there.
Post Office and Local Business
A post office was opened in Shideler in 1871. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1929.
A big part of Shideler's local economy is the Shideler Grain Company. This company became a major business in the area. It started in 1968 when someone bought the local Farm Co-op Bureau grain elevator. A grain elevator is a tall building used to store large amounts of grain, like corn or wheat.
