Shigeo Sawairi (澤入 重雄, Sawairi Shigeo, born May 8, 1963) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He is known for his time playing for Nagoya Grampus Eight and later for his coaching roles.
Shigeo Sawairi's Playing Days
Shigeo Sawairi was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on May 8, 1963. After finishing his studies at Hosei University, he joined a football team called Toyota Motors in 1986. This team later became known as Nagoya Grampus Eight.
He was a very important player for the team. Shigeo Sawairi played in attacking positions, either as an offensive Midfielder (someone who helps both defense and attack) or as a Forward (someone who tries to score goals). He even served as the team's captain for a period. However, as time went on, he played less often, and he decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 1995 season.
Becoming a Coach and Manager
After he stopped playing, Shigeo Sawairi began a new career as a coach. In 1996, he started coaching at his old club, Nagoya Grampus Eight. His main job there was as a scout, which means he looked for new talented players for the team.
From 2000 to 2008, he coached different university and high school teams. In May 2008, he joined JEF United Chiba as a coach. He even managed the team for two matches as a caretaker manager. A caretaker manager is someone who temporarily takes charge of a team when the main manager is not available. However, the team did not perform well, and he left the club in September 2009.
After that, from 2010 to 2014, he continued to manage university teams. In November 2014, he joined Kataller Toyama as a general manager. In August 2015, the team's manager was replaced, and Shigeo Sawairi became the new manager. He led the team until the end of the 2015 season and then left the club at the end of 2016.
