Shinya Kawashima (川島 眞也, Kawashima Shinya, born July 20, 1978) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender for several clubs in Japan, including Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Avispa Fukuoka.

Shinya Kawashima's Football Journey
Shinya Kawashima was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on July 20, 1978. He loved football from a young age. After finishing high school at Shimizu Commercial High School, he began his professional career.
Starting Out: Sanfrecce Hiroshima
In 1997, Shinya joined Sanfrecce Hiroshima, a team in Japan's top football league, the J1 League. He started playing as a center back, which is a defensive position. A center back's main job is to stop the other team from scoring goals.
He played more matches in 2000. However, in 2001, he didn't get to play as much.
Moving to Urawa Reds and Back
In July 2001, Shinya moved to another J1 League team, the Urawa Reds. But he didn't play any games for them. In 2002, he returned to Sanfrecce Hiroshima. He was a regular player for a short time that year.
Playing for Avispa Fukuoka
Later in 2002, Shinya moved to Avispa Fukuoka, a team in the J2 League. The J2 League is the second-highest professional football league in Japan. He became a regular player there and played many games until 2003.
Over the next few years, his playing time changed. He played often in 2007 for Avispa Fukuoka.
Joining FC Gifu and Retirement
In 2008, Shinya joined FC Gifu, a team that had just been promoted to the J2 League. He was a regular player for FC Gifu in his first year.
However, from 2009 onwards, he played fewer games. By 2012, he didn't play any matches. Shinya Kawashima decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2012 season. He had a long career playing as a defender for different teams in Japan.
