Shirley Murdock is an American singer and songwriter. She was born on May 22, 1957. Shirley is famous for her amazing voice in R&B (Rhythm and Blues) music.
She is well-known for singing with Charlie Wilson on the song "Computer Love" in 1986. She also had a big hit song called "As We Lay" that same year. This song reached number 23 on the Billboard music chart. It was from her first album, which was also called Shirley Murdock!.

Shirley Murdock's Early Life
Shirley Murdock was born in Toledo, Ohio. She went to and graduated from St. Ursula Academy.
Her Music Career
Shirley Murdock started her singing journey in Toledo, Ohio. She sang gospel music in her hometown. A musician named Roger Troutman asked Shirley to sing backup for his family's band, Zapp. Zapp had many popular songs.
Because Zapp was so successful, Roger Troutman began recording songs with Shirley. Their first song together was "Girl, Cut It Out" in 1985.
Shirley then signed with Elektra Records. She released a song called "No More" in 1986. This song reached number 24 on the R&B charts. After that, her most famous song, "As We Lay," came out. It was a gentle, sad song that became a Top Ten hit in R&B music. It also reached number 23 on the pop charts in 1987.
Shirley's first album sold very well and was certified gold. Other popular songs from that album included "Go on Without You" and "Be Free." She released more albums in 1988 called A Woman's Point of View and in 1991 called Let There Be Love!.
In the early 2000s, Shirley toured in a gospel play called Be Careful What You Pray For. She also sang on T.D. Jakes' music projects, Woman Thou Art Loosed (1997) and Sacred Love Songs (1999).
In 2002, Shirley released her first gospel album, Home. This album reached number 9 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart. Her husband, Dale Degroat, helped produce the album. Some of the best songs on the album were "We Need a Word From the Lord" and "Never Let You Down."
Shirley also started acting in a movie called Sweating in the Spirit. Later, she signed with Tyscot Records and released another album in 2007.
In 2009, Shirley worked with singer Teena Marie on a song called "Soldier." She also acted in a play called A Mother's Prayer in 2009. In 2014, she appeared in another play called "A Mother's Love."
