Sibundoy is a town and municipality in the Putumayo Department of Colombia. Its name in the Kamëntsá language is Tabanok, which means "village."
The town was already here long before the Spanish arrived in 1534. Around 1492, the Inca people, led by Huayna Cápac, took over the area. They created a settlement where people spoke Quechua. Today, the Inga people are descendants of these settlers. Most people living in Sibundoy are either from the Kamëntsá or Inga groups. While Spanish is the main language, the Kamëntsá language and Inga language are also spoken a lot. Many local people wear special long, blue and violet ponchos. These are called kapisaius and baitas.
