Sidney Rainey was born in 1968 in Sligo, Ireland. He is a talented Irish musician and producer. Sid is best known for helping to create the popular animated TV show Underground Ernie. He also has a career as a musician and a writer for comedy shows.

Sid Rainey's Music Career

Sid Rainey first became well-known as a bass player. He played for an Irish punk band called Compulsion. This was in 1990. The band was signed to One Little Indian UK and Interscope Records US.

Television and Film Work

Sid Rainey has worked in film and television in the United Kingdom for many years. He has helped create many different types of shows. These include animated children's TV series, funny quiz shows, and talk shows about music. He has also worked on feature films and short films.

Creating Underground Ernie

One of Sid Rainey's biggest achievements is co-creating Underground Ernie. He worked on this hit cartoon series with John Deery. The show was shown on the BBC and in many other countries around the world.

Sid came up with the idea, story, and characters for Underground Ernie. He also designed the characters. The show ran from 2006 to 2007. It was shown twice a day, five days a week.

He worked with famous children's writer Jan Page on the scripts. Sid also helped get well-known people to do the voices for the characters. These included Gary Lineker, Tim Whitnall, and Janet Brown.

Success of Underground Ernie

Sid Rainey also set up Joella Productions. This company helped pay for and produce all 26 episodes of Underground Ernie. The show was a huge success. It was officially the most watched children's series on the BBC during 2006 and 2007.

Underground Ernie is about a group of talking trains. They work with their human friends, Ernie, Millie, and Mr. Rails. The show first appeared on CBeebies and BBC2 in 2006. It quickly became very popular with kids.

Other Projects

From 2001 to 2006, Sid Rainey worked as a freelance writer. He wrote for big companies like Ealing Studios and Channel 4.

In August 2015, Sid directed a play by W.B. Yeats called The Resurrection. He has also directed music videos. In 2016, he directed a video for Dean Gurrie's song "Give Me A Chance." He also directed Dean's second music video, "New Beginnings."

Sid Rainey continues to work on new film and television projects. He is also working on a stage play and a new animated TV series.
