Sidney Rainey (born in 1968) is an Irish musician and producer. He is well-known for creating the children's TV show Underground Ernie. He is also known for his music and for writing comedy.
Music Career
Sid Rainey first became known as the bass player for an Irish punk band called Compulsion. He joined the band in 1990. A bass player plays a special guitar that makes low sounds. Compulsion was signed to record labels in the UK and the US.
Sid has also performed stand-up comedy. He recently directed music videos for singer Dean Gurrie. These videos were for the songs "Give Me A Chance" in 2016 and "New Beginnings" later that year.
Creating TV Shows and Films
Sid Rainey has worked in film and television in the UK for many years. He has helped create different types of shows. These include animated children's TV series, funny quiz shows, and comedy shows called sitcoms. He has also worked on talk shows about music, and both short and full-length movies.
Underground Ernie
Sid Rainey helped create and produce the popular cartoon series Underground Ernie. This show was shown on the BBC in the UK and in many other countries.
He came up with the idea, story, and characters for the show. He also designed how the characters would look. Underground Ernie was a British animated series. It ran from 2006 to 2007, showing twice a day, five days a week.
Sid worked with a famous children's writer, Jan Page, on the scripts. He also helped get well-known people to do the voices for the characters. These included Gary Lineker and Tim Whitnall.
The show was a big success! Underground Ernie was officially the most watched children's series on the BBC during 2006 and 2007. The show was about talking trains and their human friends, Ernie, Millie, and Mr. Rails. It was first shown on CBeebies and BBC2.
Other Projects
In August 2015, Sid directed a play by W.B. Yeats called "The Resurrection." He is currently working on new film and television projects. He is also creating a stage play and a new animated TV series.
