Sideways Stories from Wayside School is a super fun children's book written by American author Louis Sachar. It came out in 1978 and is the very first book in the popular Wayside School series. This book is a collection of short, funny stories, each about a different student or teacher.
Later, this amazing book was even turned into a Nickelodeon TV show called Wayside.
What is Wayside School Like?
The stories happen at a really unusual place called Wayside School. This school was supposed to be built one story tall, with thirty classrooms all in a row. But there was a mistake!
Instead, the school was built thirty stories tall. Each floor has only one classroom. There's even a missing nineteenth story, which makes things even stranger.
Most of the adventures in the book take place in Mrs. Jewls' class. Her classroom is located on the very top floor, the thirtieth story of Wayside School.
