The Silberstein Park Building is an important building in downtown Chico, California. It stands right across from Chico's City Plaza. This building is so special that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This means it's recognized as a place important to the history of the United States.

What Makes This Building Special?

This building has three stories. Its outside walls are made of white terra cotta brick. Terra cotta is a type of baked clay. The building also shows off a style called Classical Revival. This means its design was inspired by ancient Greek and Roman buildings.

Who Designed This Building?

The Silberstein Park Building was designed by an architect named A.J. Byron. He planned for it to be an office building.

A Building with Many Lives

Even though it was designed for offices, the building was used for other things. For a while, it was a movie theater called The Lyric. Later, for many years, it was a hotel named the La Grande Hotel.

In 1924, the building had some damage from a fire. The La Grande Hotel stopped running in 1981. Then, in 1984, two local developers, Bob Fortino and Bud Tracy, fixed up the building.
