The Former Lake Sils
Sils is famous for its connection to a large lake that once existed nearby. This lake was called Llac de Sils or Estany de Sils. It used to cover about 7 square kilometers (about 2.7 square miles).
Draining the Lake
The lake was drained in the 19th century, which means the water was removed. Today, only a few small wetland areas remain. These wetlands are like marshy areas where water still collects.
Restoring the Wetlands
There are now efforts to bring back some of the original nature of the area. People are working to restore a pond and the plants that used to grow there. This helps to show what the ancient Lake Sils was like.
