The Silver City Woman's Club is a special historic building. It is located at 411 Silver Heights Boulevard in Silver City, New Mexico. This club was started way back in 1909. Its beautiful meeting house was built between 1935 and 1936.

The building was designed by Richard Tatsch. He used the Pueblo Revival style. This style looks like traditional Native American Pueblo buildings. It fits in well with the history of the area. The clubhouse gave the club two main spaces. One was for community activities. The other was for private meetings.

What the Club Did

The Silver City Woman's Club helped its community in many ways. They gave food to families who needed it. They also checked on children's well-being for the state. This showed they cared about everyone in their town.

Learning and Growing

The club also offered classes for its members. These classes helped women learn new things. They could take courses in music and literature. This helped them grow and improve themselves.

The women's club has used this building ever since it was built. It has always been a place for their activities. It also serves as a space for other community meetings. Large events are often held there too.

A Historic Landmark

The clubhouse became a very important place. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 2, 2003. This means it is recognized as a significant historic site.

Other Important Clubs

Two other women's clubs were also listed around the same time. These were the Carrizozo Woman's Club and the Alamogordo Woman's Club. All three buildings were part of a program called the Works Progress Administration. This program helped create jobs during a tough time in history.

The Carrizozo club building started to show its age. It was even named one of the "Ten Most Endangered Properties" in New Mexico. This made people interested in saving all three buildings. Both history lovers and club members wanted to protect them.

Club Connections

The Silver City Woman's Club is part of a bigger group. It operates under the New Mexico Federation of Women's Clubs (NMFWC). This group is now known as GFWC New Mexico.
