Silverville is a small, quiet place located in Lawrence County, Indiana. It's what we call an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that aren't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Indian Creek Township.
A Look Back: Silverville's History
Silverville has a history that goes back to the mid-1800s. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, first opened here in 1851. This was an important place for the community to connect with the outside world.
The community was officially planned out, or "platted," on July 26, 1855. This means someone drew up a map showing where streets and building lots would be. The post office continued to serve the people of Silverville for many years, until it closed down in 1906.
