Silvio Horta (born August 14, 1974 – died January 7, 2020) was an American writer and TV show producer. He was famous for turning a popular Colombian TV show called Yo soy Betty, la fea into the American series Ugly Betty. Silvio Horta was the main writer and a top producer for Ugly Betty.

Early Life and Education
Silvio Horta was born and grew up in Miami, Florida. His family came from Cuba. In high school, he was a popular actor and writer for plays. He went to special theater programs in Miami. After high school, he studied film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Career Highlights
Before Ugly Betty, Silvio Horta wrote the movie script for the 1998 teen horror film Urban Legend. He also created two science fiction TV shows. These were Jake 2.0 and The Chronicle. An actor named Christopher Gorham starred in Jake 2.0. He later joined the cast of Ugly Betty.
In 2007, Horta won a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Series for Ugly Betty. He said that Ugly Betty showed that the American Dream is possible for anyone.
Silvio Horta started his own company called "Silent H Productions". The name was a funny way to point out that the "H" in his last name is often mispronounced. In 2011, his company signed a deal with Sony.
