Simon Locke Lord was born in Limington, Maine, in 1826. He studied medicine at the Jefferson Medical College. This was a medical school where he learned to be a doctor. In 1858, after finishing his studies, he moved to Edgerton, Wisconsin.

During the American Civil War, Simon Lord helped as a doctor. He served with soldiers from Wisconsin in the 13th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment and the 32nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. After the war, he worked as the postmaster of Edgerton. This meant he was in charge of the local post office. Simon Lord passed away in Edgerton on February 17, 1893.

Simon Lord became involved in politics in Wisconsin. In 1879, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly. This is a group of people who help make laws for the state.
