Simone del Pollaiolo (born in 1457, died in 1508) was a talented architect from Florence, Italy. People often knew him by his nickname, Il Cronaca, which means "The Chronicle One."

Simone was born into a well-known family in Florence. He was the nephew of two famous artists, Antonio and Piero Benci. They were also known by the nickname Pollaiuolo or Pollaiolo, which means "Hen-House Keeper" in Italian (from the word pollaio).

Why He Was Called Il Cronaca

Simone earned his special nickname, Il Cronaca, because of his unique way of working. A famous writer named Giorgio Vasari explained why. Around 1470, Simone traveled to Rome to study old buildings. He wanted to learn more about how ancient Roman architecture was built.

When he came back to Florence, Simone shared his discoveries. He told very detailed and careful stories about everything he had seen. His descriptions were so precise and complete, like a historical record or a chronicle. That's why people started calling him "The Chronicle One."

Important Projects and His Legacy

Simone del Pollaiolo played a big part in finishing the famous Strozzi Palace in Florence. Another architect, Benedetto da Maiano, had started the palace. But after Benedetto da Maiano passed away in 1497, Simone took over. He made sure the grand palace was completed.

Simone del Pollaiolo died in Florence in 1508. He is remembered as an important architect from the Italian Renaissance period.
