Discovering Simpson Tower
What is the Simpson Tower?
The Simpson Tower is one of the tallest buildings in Toronto. It was designed by an architect named John B. Parkin. This building was once the main office for a famous department store. Today, it is still used as an office building.
A Look at Its History
The Simpson Tower was built in 1968 for the Simpsons department store. But in 1978, another company called the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) bought Simpsons. This meant the Simpson Tower became the property of HBC.
Even today, the building is the main office for HBC. It also houses the offices for other stores that are part of HBC, like Hudson's Bay and Home Outfitters.
In 2014, the Hudson's Bay Company announced that they would sell the tower. They sold it to a company called Cadillac Fairview. However, HBC will continue to rent and use the building for 25 years.
Connected to the City
The Simpson Tower is located right next to the historic Simpsons store. This store is at Yonge and Queen Streets. It includes a special place called Arcadian Court. Today, this store is the main Hudson's Bay store in Toronto. It is also connected to the Eaton Centre, a large shopping mall across Queen Street. The building is also home to a big health center for Toronto.
