Maurice Sinet (born December 31, 1928 – died May 5, 2016) was a famous French artist. He was known by his professional name, Siné. He created political cartoons, which are drawings that share an opinion about politics or society.
Siné's artwork often showed his strong beliefs. He was against capitalism, which is an economic system where private businesses own most things. He was also against clericalism, which means he didn't think religious leaders should have too much power in government. Siné supported decolonization, meaning he believed countries should be free from foreign rule. He also believed in anarchism, a political idea that suggests people can live without a government.

About Siné's Life
Early Years and First Works
When Siné was young, he studied drawing and graphic arts. To earn money, he also worked as a singer in a cabaret. His very first drawing was published in a newspaper called France Dimanche in 1952.
In 1955, Siné won an award called the Prix de l'Humour noircats. After this, he started working for the newspaper L'Express as a political cartoonist.

Siné's strong views against colonialism caused some arguments during the Algerian War. This war was when Algeria fought for its independence from France. Siné was taken to court several times because of his work. A lawyer named Jacques Vergès defended him. Vergès was a lawyer for the Algerian Liberation Front, a group fighting for Algeria's freedom.
In 1962, Siné left L'Express. He then published a book of his drawings called Siné Massacre. This book showed his views against colonialism, capitalism, and clericalism. It also showed his support for anarchism.
Working with L'Enragé
In May 1968, Siné started a short-lived satirical magazine called L'Enragé. He created it with Jean-Jacques Pauvert. This magazine was connected to the May 1968 events in France, which were a time of big protests and changes in France.
Siné's Passing
Siné passed away on May 5, 2016, in a hospital in Paris. He was 87 years old. He had been fighting cancer for several years before his death.
