Sina Greenwood facts for kids
Sina Ruth Greenwood is a mathematician from New Zealand. She studies different areas of math, like how things connect and change over time. She is also a professor at the University of Auckland. There, she helps lead the science department.
Her Journey in Math
Sina's parents moved to New Zealand from Samoa. They settled in Auckland when she was young.
Sina went to the University of Auckland for her first degree. After spending some time in Australia, she became a high school teacher in Auckland.
She later returned to the University of Auckland to study math even more. She earned her master's degree. Then, in 1999, she completed her PhD. Her special project was called Nonmetrisable Manifolds. She was one of the first people to earn a PhD in a math area called topology at the University of Auckland. Topology is a branch of math that studies shapes and spaces.
After her PhD, Sina did more research. In 2004, she became a lecturer at the University of Auckland. Later, she became an associate professor. Besides teaching math, she also works to support Pasifika and Māori students at the university.
Awards and Recognition
In 2018, Sina Greenwood was chosen as a Fellow of the New Zealand Mathematical Society. This is a special honor given to mathematicians who have done important work in their field.
