Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu, known as Sinach, is a famous Nigerian singer and songwriter. She was born on March 30, 1972. Sinach has been a worship leader for over 30 years. She made history as the first songwriter to stay at the top of the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart for 12 weeks in a row.
Her hit song "Way Maker" won the Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards. This made her the first Nigerian to win this important award. She also won the BMI Song of the Year. In 2021, the US Congress recognized her during her tour in the United States.
Sinach has released 9 studio albums. She has many popular songs like "I Know Who I Am" and "Great Are You Lord." Other well-known songs include "Rejoice," "He Did It Again," and "The Name of Jesus."
"Way Maker" has received many awards since it came out in 2015. The music video for "Way Maker" is the second most-watched Nigerian music video on YouTube. In March 2019, it was the third Nigerian video to reach 100 million views on YouTube. Only Davido's "Fall" and Yemi Alade's "Johnny" had more views at that time.
Over 60 Christian artists have covered "Way Maker." These include Michael W. Smith and Darlene Zschech. It has also been sung in many different languages. During the start of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, "Way Maker" became a very popular song. Many videos showed people singing it in hospitals and parks. The song was number one on the Christian Copyright Licensing International chart for months in 2020. This made it the most played song in churches across the United States that year.
In December 2017, Sinach received a Bethlehem Hall of Faith certificate in Israel. In September 2019, she became the first gospel artist from Africa to tour India. Thousands of people attended her concerts there. In May 2020, she was the first African artist to top the Billboard Christian Songwriters chart. In July 2022, she joined the Grammy Recording Academy as a voting member. In February 2023, the government of Dominica named Sinach a global ambassador.

About Sinach's Life
Her Early Years
Sinach comes from Ebonyi State in Eastern Nigeria. She is the second of seven children in her family.
Sinach started singing for her family and friends in 1989. It was just a hobby back then. She also worked as a staff member and sang in the choir at Christ Embassy. This is Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's Church. Sinach studied physics and graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria.
Her Family Life
In 2014, Sinach married Joseph Egbu at her church, Christ Embassy. On November 17, 2019, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome announced that Sinach had welcomed her first child, Rhoda.
Sinach's Music Journey
As a child, Sinach often dreamed of singing to large crowds. However, she did not plan to make music her career. She only joined the church choir and worked as an administrative staff member. Sinach wrote many songs before releasing her first album, Chapter One, in 2008. Her song 'This Is Your Season' won the Song of the Year award in 2008.
Sinach explained how she got her stage name. She said, "I chose that from my name Osinachi because it is easy to pronounce and catchy."
In 2016, Sinach received the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award. This award recognized her great contributions to gospel music over ten years. Her songs were being sung and translated into many languages worldwide. That same year, she won the African Achievers' Award for Global Excellence. Also in 2016, she won the Western Africa Artist of the Year by Groove Awards in Kenya for the second time. YNaija listed her as one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria.
Sinach has written over 200 songs. She has won many awards for her songwriting. One of her most famous songs is 'I Know Who I Am'.
Live Performances
Sinach has performed in over 50 countries. These include Kenya, South Africa, the United States, and Canada. She has also performed in India, the United Kingdom, and many Caribbean islands.
Sinach has also performed in Nigeria. She sang at The Experience concert. This event is hosted by Pastor Paul Adefarasin. She also performed at the annual Women on the Winning Edge Conference.
In December 2020, Sinach won the Best Gospel Artist award. This was at the 2020 African Entertainment Awards USA. In 2022, she won the ABGMA International Artist of the Decade and Song of the Decade Awards. In November 2024, she led a Night of Worship in Abuja, Nigeria. Thousands of people attended this event.
Helping Others
Sinach and her husband started the Joseph and Sinach Foundation. Their first project was a medical outreach in Abia State, Nigeria. They worked with Emzor Pharmaceuticals and the State Government. This project gave free healthcare to 700 people.
