Singleton is a suburb located on the edge of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. It is part of the City of Rockingham local government area. Singleton is the most southern suburb in the wider Perth metropolitan area, which is the big city region around Perth.
Interestingly, Singleton is actually closer to the regional city of Mandurah than it is to the main city centres of Perth or Rockingham. The area is growing, with new developments happening near Singleton Primary School and the main sports oval, Laurie Stanford Reserve. You can find a petrol station, a small shopping centre, and the school in Singleton.
How Singleton Got Its Name
The suburb of Singleton was named after Captain Francis Singleton. He arrived in this area way back in 1839. Captain Singleton became a very important land owner in the region, which is why the suburb now carries his name.
