Sir Baynham Throckmorton, 3rd Baronet (born December 11, 1629 – died July 31, 1681) was an important English politician. He came from Clearwell, a place in Gloucestershire, England. Sir Baynham was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, at different times between 1656 and 1679.

Sir Baynham was the son of Sir Baynham Throckmorton, 2nd Baronet and his mother, Margaret Hopton.

Becoming a Politician

In 1656, Sir Baynham Throckmorton was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected to represent people in the government. He represented Gloucestershire in a special government meeting called the Second Protectorate Parliament.

Important Roles and Titles

On May 28, 1660, Sir Baynham was given the title of Knight. Soon after, in June 1660, he was again elected as an MP. This time, he represented Wotton Basset in a meeting known as the Convention Parliament.

In the same year, 1660, he took on several important jobs. He became the Deputy Constable of St Briavel's. He was also made the Deputy Warden of the Forest of Dean. Plus, he was the Keeper of the Gawle in the Dean Forest. He also worked as a Riding Forester and an aleconner there.

Taking Over the Baronetcy

In 1664, Sir Baynham's father passed away. This meant Sir Baynham inherited the title of Baronet. A Baronet is a special hereditary title, like a knight, but it can be passed down in the family. After his father's death, he was again elected as an MP for Gloucestershire. He served in the Cavalier Parliament until 1679.

Working with Miners

Sir Baynham was very well-liked by the miners in the Forest of Dean. In 1668, they chose him as a "Free Miner" of the Forest of Dean. This was a special honor. He also served as a judge in the courts that dealt with mining laws. These court sessions happened at his main home, Clearwell, in 1668, 1676, and 1680.

Family Life

Sir Baynham Throckmorton married twice. His first wife was Mary Garton. They married on December 12, 1652. Later, he married Katherine Edgecombe on December 21, 1669.

He had one daughter from each marriage. His daughter Katherine, from his second marriage, later married Thomas Wylde, who was also an MP.

When Sir Baynham died at age 51, his Baronet title went to his cousin, Sir William Throckmorton, 4th Baronet. His home, Clearwell, was sold in 1684.
