Sir Charles Edward James Louis William John Hamilton (born May 28, 1845 – died November 15, 1928) was an important English businessman and a politician from the Conservative Party. He held a special title called a Baronet, which meant he was a "Sir" and had a place of honor.

Sir Charles Hamilton was born in 1845. His father was John Hamilton, and his mother was Jessy Kemble. They lived in Liverpool, England. Sir Charles grew up to be a successful person. He worked hard and took on many important roles in his community and in the government.

Early Life and Business

Sir Charles was a leader in the business world. He was a Director at two companies: the North Wales Taper Co. and McCorquodale & Co. This meant he helped make big decisions for these businesses.

Serving His Community

Sir Charles was very involved in his local community.

  • He was a member of the Liverpool Corporation for nine years. This group helped run the city of Liverpool.
  • He was also a Lieutenant-Colonel in the 8th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers. This was a group of people who volunteered to train like soldiers to help defend their country if needed. He retired from this role in 1881 but was allowed to keep his rank.
  • He also served as a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for both Lancashire and Liverpool City. A Justice of the Peace is a person who helps keep law and order in the local area.

Life in Politics

In 1885, Sir Charles Hamilton became a Member of Parliament (MP). This meant people in the area of Rotherhithe voted for him to represent them in the national government. He held this important job until 1892. In that year, he decided not to run for election again.

After leaving Parliament, he received a special honor. On November 21, 1892, he was given the title of Baronet of Cadogan Square. This made him "Sir Charles Hamilton." In 1906, he took on another important role. He was appointed High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire. This was a high-ranking official position in those counties.

Later Life and Family

Sir Charles Hamilton lived at a place called Mayfield in Shooter's Hill, Kent. He married Mary McCorquodale in 1876. They had two daughters together, named Winnie and Maud Kemble. Sir Charles lived to be 83 years old. He passed away on November 15, 1928. When he died, his special title of Baronet ended because he did not have any sons to pass it on to. He is buried in Greenwich Cemetery in London.
