Charles Thomas Hudson Palmer was born on May 20, 1771. He was the son of Sir Charles Hudson, 1st Baronet, who lived at Wanlip Hall. His mother was Catherine Palmer. Charles later became a Baronet himself. He also changed his name to Palmer, connecting his family to the Palmer name.

Early Life and Family Connections
In 1805, Charles married Harriet Pepperell. She was born on December 17, 1773. Harriet was one of three daughters of Sir William Pepperell from Boston. Her mother was Elizabeth, the daughter of Isaac Royall. A famous artist named John Singleton Copley painted a picture of William Pepperell and his family in 1778.
Important Family Links
Charles's marriage to Harriet was very important. It connected his family to the wealthy Pepperell family. It also linked him to the American Royall family. The Royalls had become rich from their sugar plantations in Antigua. Both Isaac Royall and Charles's father had business interests in plantations in Surinam.
His Children
Charles and Harriet had several children. Their first daughter, Louisa, was born in 1803. Mary Ann followed in 1806. A third daughter, Caroline Harriet, was born in 1809. Their son and heir, George Joseph, was born in 1811. Their last two children were Charles Axdale and William Henry.
Becoming a Baronet and Name Change
Charles became a Baronet in 1813. This meant he inherited a special title from his father. According to his grandfather's will, he changed his name to Palmer. This made the Hudson baronetcy become the Palmer baronetcy of Wanlip Hall.
He also successfully challenged a will written by the first Baronet. The court decided that the request to pass on money to children 28 years later was too unclear.
Notable Descendants
His third daughter, Caroline Harriet, became very well known. She married Rev. Charles Abraham. With her help, he became the bishop of Wellington in New Zealand. Their son and grandson also became bishops. Caroline Harriet was known as an artist. She also worked to protect the rights of the Maori people in New Zealand.
His heir, George, married Emily Elizabeth Holford. Their daughter, Emily Frances, married James Tomkinson. He was a landowner and a politician. The Palmer-Tomkinson family are descendants of this line. They still own much of the land around Wanlip today.

Charles Thomas Hudson Palmer passed away in Wanlip in 1827.
