Sir Edward Hussey, 1st Baronet (born October 10, 1585 – died March 22, 1648) was an important English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons of England in 1640. During the English Civil War, he supported the King's side, known as the Royalists.

Sir Edward Hussey was born in 1585. His father was Sir Charles Hussey of Honington. His mother was Ellen Birch. Her father was Lord Chief Baron Birch, a very important judge.

Early Life and Special Titles

On June 19, 1611, Edward Hussey was given a special title: Baronet. This title meant he was a knight, but it could be passed down in his family. His title was "Baronet of Honington" in Lincolnshire.

He also held an important local job. In 1618, he became the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire. This role meant he was the King's main representative in the county. He was in charge of law and order. He held this job again in 1638.

A Role in Politics

In April 1640, Sir Edward Hussey became a Member of Parliament. This meant he was chosen to represent the area of Lincolnshire in the English Parliament. This Parliament was called the Short Parliament because it did not last very long.

The English Civil War

Sir Edward Hussey was a strong supporter of King Charles I. When the English Civil War began, he fought for the King's side. Because of his support for the King, he was later removed from public office. This happened under an agreement called the Treaty of Uxbridge.

His Family

Sir Edward Hussey married Elizabeth Anton. She was the daughter of George Anton of Lincoln. Together, they had four sons and five daughters.

Sir Edward's grandson, Thomas, took over the Baronet title after him. Another grandson, William, became an ambassador. An ambassador is a person who represents their country in another country. William worked as an ambassador for King William III.
