Sir Edward Mosley, 2nd Baronet (born 1639 – died October 14, 1665) was an important English politician. He lived in a place called Hulme in Lancashire. From 1661 until he passed away in 1665, he was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government that makes laws.

Who Was Sir Edward Mosley?

Sir Edward Mosley was the son of Sir Edward Mosley, 1st Baronet. His father was also a very important person from Rolleston, Staffordshire. A "Baronet" is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.

Early Life and Education

Edward started studying at Brasenose College, Oxford, a famous university, on March 28, 1655. When his father died in December 1657, Edward became the 2nd Baronet. He also inherited his family's large estates, which included lands in Rolleston and Hough End Hall in Lancashire.

A Role in Politics

In November 1660, Edward was chosen to be the High Sheriff of Lancashire. A High Sheriff was a very important official who helped keep law and order in a county. However, he was replaced by December of that same year.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In 1661, Sir Edward Mosley was elected as a Member of Parliament for a place called Mitchell. This meant he represented the people of Mitchell in the House of Commons. He served in this role until he died. In the same year, he also bought another important estate called Hulme, which is now part of the city of Manchester.

Family and Legacy

Sir Edward Mosley passed away at Hough End on October 14, 1665. He was buried at Didsbury on October 21, 1665. When he died, the special title of Baronet for his family ended because he didn't have a son to pass it on to.

Just a few months before he died, in April 1665, Sir Edward married Katharine Grey. She was the daughter of William Grey, 1st Baron Grey of Werke. After Sir Edward's death, his estates were inherited by a cousin.
