Who Was Sir George Blundell?

Sir George Blundell was the son of Sir Francis Blundell, 1st Baronet and Joyce Serjeant. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, but it can be passed down in a family. Sir George became the 2nd Baronet on April 26, 1625, after his father passed away. This meant he inherited his father's title and some of his responsibilities.

His Political Life

Sir George Blundell was a politician, which means he helped make decisions for the country. He was a Member of Parliament (often called an MP). An MP is someone chosen to represent a certain area and speak for its people in the government.

  • From 1639 to 1649, Sir George was an MP for a place called Dingle in the Irish House of Commons. The Irish House of Commons was like a parliament for Ireland back then, where laws were discussed and made.
  • In 1657, he became the High Sheriff of King's County. A High Sheriff was a very important local official. They were in charge of keeping law and order in their county.
  • Later, from 1661 to 1666, he was an MP again, this time representing Philipstown in the Irish Commons.
  • Sir George was also considered to be one of the "Knights of the Royal Oak." This was a special group that was planned but never actually created.

Family and Legacy

Sir George Blundell married a woman named Sarah Colley. Her parents were Sir William Colley and Elizabeth Giffard. Sir George and Sarah had a son named Francis Blundell. When Sir George died, his son Francis inherited the title and became the 3rd Baronet.
