Sir George Thomas, 3rd Baronet (born around 1740 – died May 6, 1815) was an important British politician. He was known for his work in the House of Commons of Great Britain.
The Early Life of Sir George Thomas
Sir George Thomas was the son of Sir William Thomas, who was the 2nd Baronet. A baronetcy is a special title that is passed down in a family, similar to a knight but hereditary. When his father passed away in 1777, George Thomas inherited this title and became the 3rd Baronet.
Building a New Home and Estate
In 1780, Sir George Thomas started a big project. He bought many different pieces of land near a place called Madehurst and joined them together. This created a large estate known as Dale Park.
On December 20, 1782, he married Sophia Montagu. Her father was Admiral John Montagu, a high-ranking officer in the Royal Navy. While their new main house was being built, Sir George and Sophia lived in Madehurst Lodge during the 1780s. A famous architect named Joseph Bonomi designed their new home. It is believed that the house was still being built as late as 1791.
Sir George Thomas's Political Career
Sir George Thomas was a Member of Parliament (MP). This means he was elected to represent people in the House of Commons of Great Britain, which is a part of the British government. He represented the area of Arundel. He served as an MP for seven years, from 1790 to 1797. During this time, he helped make decisions and laws for Great Britain.
