Sir George Tyler, 1st Baronet

Sir George Robert Tyler, 1st Baronet (born August 26, 1835 – died November 26, 1897) was an important person in London. He held the title of baronet and was also the Lord Mayor of London.

Sir George Tyler's Public Life

Sir George Tyler helped start a company called Venables, Tyler and Son. They were papermakers at 17 Queenhithe. This means they made paper.

He was a councilman and an alderman from 1887 until he passed away. These roles meant he was a leader in the city government. He also served as a Sheriff of London from 1891 to 1892.

His biggest role was being the Lord Mayor of London from 1893 to 1894. This is a very old and important job, like being the main leader of the City of London. After he visited Antwerp, a city in Belgium, they even named a street after him: Rue Lord Mayor Tyler!

He was also the Master of the Stationers' Company from 1893 to 1894. This was a special group for people involved in printing and paper. In 1894, he was given the title of baronet, which is a special honor from the King or Queen.

Later Life and Passing

Sir George Tyler passed away at his home in Earls Court. He was buried at West Norwood Cemetery.
