Sir Hector Maclean (born around 1760 – died November 2, 1818) was an important leader of the Scottish Clan Maclean. He held the title of the 23rd Clan Chief, which meant he was the main leader of his family group. He was also the 7th Baronet of Morvern. Sadly, Sir Hector passed away without having any children, so his special titles and leadership role went to his half-brother after his death.

The Life of Sir Hector Maclean
Sir Hector Maclean was born around 1760. His father was Donald Maclean of Brolas. Donald Maclean was a great-grandson of Donald MacLean, 1st Laird of Brolas, an important figure in their family history.
Becoming a Clan Chief
Sir Hector became the 23rd leader, or Clan Chief, of Clan Maclean in 1783. This happened after his cousin, Sir Allan Maclean, 6th Baronet, passed away without anyone to inherit his titles. A Clan Chief is like the head of a very old family or tribe in Scotland. They are responsible for their clan members.
Sir Hector's Career and Later Years
In his younger days, Sir Hector served in the army. This means he was a soldier, likely helping to protect his country. However, for most of his life, he chose to live a quiet life away from public attention. He preferred a peaceful existence.
Succession and Family Legacy
Sir Hector died on November 2, 1818. Since he did not have any children, his important titles and the role of Clan Chief were passed on. His half-brother, Sir Fitzroy Jeffreys Grafton Maclean, 8th Baronet, became the next leader of the Clan Maclean. This ensured the family's leadership continued.
