Donald MacLean, 1st Laird of Brolas (born around 1600, died after 1655), was an important Scottish leader. He was a Laird, which means he was a powerful landowner and chief in Scotland. Donald was a member of Clan MacLean, a famous Scottish family group. He was the very first person to hold the title of Laird of Brolas. He also took part in a big fight called the Battle of Inverkeithing.

Donald MacLean was born around the year 1600. His father was Hector Og Maclean, 15th Clan Chief, who was a very important leader of the MacLean clan. Donald's mother was the daughter of Sir Archibald Acheson, 1st Baronet. Donald was the first son from his father's second marriage. He also had a brother named John Hans Makeléer.
His Children and Legacy
Donald MacLean married Florence Maclean. She was the daughter of John Garbh Maclean, 7th Laird of Coll. Together, they had several children who continued the family line.
Important Descendants
- Lauchlan Maclean, 2nd Laird of Brolas: He was Donald's son and took over as the second Laird of Brolas. Lauchlan also became a Member of Parliament, which means he helped make laws for the country. Later, one of his descendants, Sir Allan Maclean, 6th Baronet, became the main chief of the entire Clan MacLean.
- Hector Og Maclean of Brolas: Another son of Donald. His son, John Maclean of Brolas, had a son named Donald Maclean of Brolas. This Donald then had two sons who became important leaders: Sir Hector Maclean, 7th Baronet and Sir Fitzroy Jeffreys Grafton Maclean, 8th Baronet.
