Sir Henry Peyton, 2nd Baronet (born 1779, died 1854) was an English politician. He came from Doddington in Cambridgeshire and also lived at Swift's House in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

Early Life and Education

Henry Peyton was the oldest son of Sir Henry Peyton, 1st Baronet. When his father passed away in 1789, Henry became the 2nd Baronet. He went to Harrow School from 1790 to 1795. After that, he studied at Christ Church, Oxford from 1797 to 1799.

Political Career

In May 1802, Henry Peyton was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone who represents the people of an area in the country's government, which is called the Parliament of the United Kingdom. He represented Cambridgeshire in a special election. However, he did not run for election again later that year.

Later, from 1808 to 1809, he was appointed High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire. A High Sheriff is an important local official. In those days, they helped keep law and order in their county.

Hobbies and Interests

Sir Henry Peyton was very well known for his skill at driving carriages. He was one of the people who helped start the Four Horse Club. This was a special club for people who enjoyed driving carriages pulled by four horses. His love for carriage driving was so famous that he is even mentioned in two novels by a writer named Georgette Heyer. These books are called The Reluctant Widow and Regency Buck.

Family Life

Henry Peyton married a woman named Harriet. Harriet was the daughter of James Fitzhugh and was also the widow of James Bradshaw. They lived in Portland Place. Henry and Harriet had one son who survived. He was named Henry and later became the 3rd Baronet.
